How Happy is Your Colon?

How Happy is Your Colon?
From the tender age of 14, I was invariably spouting out sermons about the colon being the key to your health. You can only imagine what great company I was! However, still to this day, I am consistent with those thoughts and anyone who knows me, knows that I walk my talk. If you really do keep your colon clear the rest of the organs will take care of themselves and if you want the ultimate key to anti aging, then take care of your bowels!
Here are some very simple things to keep in mind, to help you have a healthy colon and keep looking way younger than what you are. I have many more tips than these, enough to fill a book’s worth, but in the meantime, let me give you a few to get you started.
Tip 1. Have breakfast, because the bowels go to sleep at night and eating food and having a hot drink wakes them up in the morning. In fact, if you drink a glass of warm water or some herbal tea first thing, it will help flush out your system.
Tip 2. By trial and error, find out what foods that you are eating are causing you indigestion, gas or diarrhea, as they should also be avoided in your diet. Many people are intolerant to dairy and wheat and, if you want to find out if you are one of those people, all you have to do is eat some wheat bread or pasta and notice if you have indigestion or gas after that. If you do, you know you are intolerant. Then at a separate time, do the same with dairy. It really is a matter of listening to your body. I am not saying to stop those things, as that is up to you, but just be aware of the affect that it is having on your system. As an aside though, if you do stop those foods, then you will find that you will probably lose a few pounds as well!
Tip 3. Eat more grains, cereals legumes, lentils, nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables. No more processed food or refined sugars, nothing that is unnatural or man-made. The planet supplies everything you need to stay healthy and to give you energy. Food is energy and you need energy to survive. But when you eat ‘fake’ food, it doesn’t give you energy, it takes it away. You might get a temporary high, but your energy will invariably ‘crash’ very soon after. Also these ‘fake’ foods are very difficult to digest and can remain stuck and decompose in your colon for years, causing all sorts of problems. So stick to natural foods as much as you can.
Tip 4. Do your best to eat protein (i.e. fish, meat, eggs, chicken) and carbohydrate (i.e. bread, potatoes, pasta) in separate meals, as much as you can. The digestive enzymes in your stomach needed to break down carbs are different from protein and so having all the different enzymes working at the same time takes up more energy and can make it difficult to do anything else, apart from nap! Less food groups help the digestion and also give you more energy. You may notice if you have a rich meal with lots of ingredients you want a siesta, have indigestion or, if it’s at night, have problems sleeping.
Tip 5. Take digestive enzymes, when you have complicated meals with lots of complex ingredients to help you digest your meals. You can find them in any good health food store.

You go girl. My wife is type A and I am type B. We agreed for the most part, but we are individuals we must respect that option. To our strengths together we remind each other of our vowels.
